The "WHAT" and the "WHY"
Haarlow's Hoops Academy just started in the summer of 2015. In just 7 weeks I had over 45 lessons. Most of the lessons were 1 on 1 with some being small groups of 2, 3, and 4. Purposeful training in the fundamentals of basketball is needed at every level. My sessions are highly organized, detailed and will make you better as a player. My training philosophy is based on years of learning from some great leaders and coaches in the game. There is no substitution for repetitions. I firmly believe that some form of "self discovery" is needed for something new to truly sink in. Teach the skill, make sure there is a good understanding, then repeat a ton and learn from mistakes... Kevin Eastman, one of the best teachers in the game, coined the phrase; "it takes 2 minutes to teach a skill, 2 weeks to go full speed and 2 months to perfect the skill." Athletes want to be held accountable and held to a higher standard. With a coach in the gym that can be accomplished once a rapport has been established.

Why would you choose to join our programs? If you want to be a serious player, H.H.A. is the right way to go. If you want to be pushed to achieve your goals and dreams, H.H.A. is the right choice. We will make you better both mentally and physically. You build confidence through encouragement and hard work.
I have had an opportunity to coach some great players (15 All-Americans, 5 professional players). The one common theme that they all had was that they wanted to be coached and they were thirsty to get better daily. They were eager, not just willing players. They did more than the guy beside them. Think of the great people that are around from any profession. Are they “normal” or did they persevere through a lot of uncomfortable situations? Improvement is about leaving a comfort zone and becoming uncomfortable. Once you leave the comfort zone, where we all want to be, you become better quickly. The best possible way to improve is through repetition. You need to have many reps at game speed to get better! Those reps need to have a very precise purpose. No wasted time. Every session, whether individual session, small group sessions, or team training will consist of weak hand development, shooting, ball-handling, finishing at the goal and lots and lots of reps! |
H.H.A. is a vehicle to get better. I want you to be a better person and basketball player after you are done training with us. I was fortunate to coach basketball in college for almost two decades. I know what it takes to make you better. My program offers a variety of ways to improve as a player. 1 on 1 sessions, small group sessions, and team training are the areas that the program covers. Most of my sessions are hosted at the O'Neal School in Tate Gymnasium. My sessions are full of details and will be very organized.
